Quick tasks for returning instructors

Ongoing (a full term)

For a course section that meets in the same Echo360-enabled room at the same time every week for the term — set this up once with “Schedule for entire semester.”

Create and manage Echo360 sections, schedules and recordings. This could include combining two recordings, removing a recording, or part of a recording.

Special (one-time event)

For a single makeup lecture, exam review session, guest speaker, or department meeting — use the special recording request instead of the semester form.

Schedule recordings for the semester

  1. Confirm your sections and room assignments are correct in ARIESweb — Echo360 sections are created from this automatically overnight.
  2. Open the scheduling request form and check the box for each section you want recorded.
  3. Set the room for each section, add any notes, and submit. Sections are scheduled immediately unless there’s a room conflict.

Combine sections (hybrid, cross-listed, or lecture + recitation)

Use this for hybrid courses that alternate online/in-person, cross-listed sections, or a lecture and recitation/lab scheduled back-to-back in the same room:

  1. Create recording schedules for each individual (child) section first.
  2. Use “Combine Recording Schedules” to merge them under one parent section.
  3. Link that parent Echo360 section — not the children — to your Canvas course.

If the self-service tool has issues, email the support team directly and request the combination by hand — allow 48 hours.

Re-check your Canvas link still works

Links carry over between semesters, but section names change. Open the Echo360 tab in Canvas and confirm it’s pointed at the current term’s section — reconnect if it shows the wrong one.

Instructors make Echo360 content available to students in Canvas by adding an Echo360 link to the course navigation and linking the Echo360 section to the Canvas course.

Cancel a single class recording

For an exam day, travel, or a cancelled class:

  1. Submit the cancellation form with the specific date(s) and time(s), as soon as you know.
  2. Allow up to 48 hours — Echo360 staff remove these by hand.

Remove a recording

Semester: If you’ll only use Universal Capture, or no longer want classroom recording: uncheck the section(s) on the scheduling form and submit. This takes effect right away.

Remove videos from your library: Select the term and section, check the videos or media to delete, and submit — staff remove them manually.

Reuse last semester’s recordings (Cloning)

Clone your previous section into the new one to carry over the videos without re-recording. Cloning keeps the video itself but strips its analytics history — the new section starts its engagement data from zero.

Trim or edit a video

Open the video in your library, then use the built-in Media Editor to trim the start/end or cut sections — no separate software needed.

Add captions or a transcript

Echo360 generates a transcript automatically after processing. Open the video, review and edit the auto-generated text for accuracy before publishing — contact Student Disability Services to create closed captions for accessibility conformance.

See who’s engaged (Analytics)

Open a video or section and check the course analytics view for watch time and student engagement data.

Zoom

Zoom is a synchronous platform many are using to meet with students real time. After recording the live session, you can send a Zoom recording directly to your Echo360 Library.

Upload a personal recording

Any videos can be uploaded and stored in Echo360, including Microsoft Teams recordings downloaded from Streams, or other personal videos. Other media such as images and PDF files can also be uploaded.

While a transcript is automatically created when a video is recorded, it should be reviewed for accuracy. Transcription differs from captioning in several ways. Transcription is the process of converting speech to text and does not include sound effects and non-speech elements that are often included in closed captions. If a student needs closed captioning, contact the CSU Student Disability center to assist.
