Instructors new to Echo360

Three steps to access, record and share Echo360

Log in, record your lecture with the method that fits how you teach, then connect it to Canvas so students can find it. Every uploaded video will have an automatic transcript — no extra step needed.

  • Log into echo360.org — your account already exists; it was created automatically with your NetID.
  • Enter your [email protected] email address. This routes you to CSU’s single sign-on.
  • Log in with your NetID and password.

Always use your [email protected] address here — any other address creates a duplicate account and access problems later.

  • Record in an Echo360-enabled classroom
  • Universal Capture for home or office recording
  • in Zoom, or
  • by uploading a video created with other software

In an Echo360-enabled classroom

Nearly 200 CSU rooms record automatically once scheduled — no software needed.

  1. Check that your class meets in an Echo360-enabled room (your department or the room list can confirm).
  2. Request a recording schedule for the semester.
  3. On class day, turn on the room’s AV system and select your camera shot (tight, medium, or wide).
  4. Confirm the microphone light is green (clip on a lapel mic, or use the boundary mic on the podium) — then just teach.

The room’s Pod records automatically and uploads to your library after class — nothing to save or start yourself. Recording begins a few minutes before class and ends a few minutes after, so the full lecture is captured.

Universal Capture for home or office recording

Use Universal Capture, free recording software for your laptop or PC.

  1. For a quick recording, use in-browser capture at Echo360.org — no install required. For more control (multiple screens, higher quality), download and install Universal Capture: Personal instead.
  2. Open it and log in with your CSU NetID.
  3. Choose what to record — camera, screen, and microphone — and under “Publish to,” pick your course section.
  4. Click Record. Aim for 5–10 minute segments per topic rather than one long recording — it’s easier for students to watch and for you to re-use later.
  5. Stop the recording — it uploads to your Echo360 library on its own.

If you skip picking a section, the recording still saves to your library — you can assign it to a course later.

In Zoom

Already recording your class in Zoom? Upload that Zoom recording to Echo360.

  1. Best option: Set up automatic Zoom uploads once, record to the cloud, then map your Zoom meetings to the matching Echo360 course section — every future recording lands in the right place with no extra steps.
  2. Without mapping, recordings still sync to your Echo360 Main Library — you’ll just need to assign each one to a section manually.
  3. No Zoom Pro account or sync isn’t working? Download the recording from Zoom and upload it to your Echo360 library directly.

Zoom recordings can include student video and chat — a good option if class discussion is part of the lecture.

I already have a video

Made in Microsoft Teams or elsewhere — upload a video straight to your library.

  1. Log in to your Echo360 account.
  2. Go to your library and upload the video file.
  3. Assign the video to the course section where students should see it.

However you record, pick a way to connect it to Canvas. Most instructors use the first option.

  1. Recommended — the Echo360 tab: In Canvas, go to Settings → Navigation and enable the Echo360 tab. Click it, choose your term, course, and section, then select “Section home” so students see every lesson in one place, automatically kept up to date.
  2. A single video link: Create a link to one specific video and paste it into a Canvas page or module — useful for pointing students to one particular recording.
  3. An embedded video: Embed a video frame directly into a Canvas page or module, so it plays in place without leaving the page.

Teaching cross-listed or combined sections? Link the parent Echo360 section to the parent Canvas section, not each child section individually.
